New Dover is an unincorporated community in Dover Township, Union County, Ohio, United States. It is located along U.S. Route 36, about three miles east of Marysville. [2] New Dover was originally called Dover, and under the latter name was laid out and platted in 1854. [3] The New Dover Post Office was established on February 5, 1856. [4]
Watkins was laid out and platted in 1838, and named for Joseph S. Watkins, a government surveyor. [3] The Watkins Post office was established on March 18, 1840, but was discontinued on July 31, 1908.
In 1872, the railway company built a railroad depot and a telegraph office. As of 1877, the community contained two stores, one warehouse, one telegraph office, and the district school-house.
