The following is a list of coaches who have coached the Western Bulldogs, previously known as Footscray, at a game of Australian rules football in the Australian Football League (AFL), formerly the VFL.

Ted Whitten Snr. retired as a player in 1970 and held the record for the most VFL games played at the time (321 games); he would continue in a coaching capacity until the end of 1971.

Sachse was a premiership player with North Adelaide before moving to VFL club Footscray in 1975. In his second match for Footscray (Round 2, 1975), Sachse was left a quadriplegic after an accidental collision with Fitzroy player Kevin O'Keeffe. Alan John Martin (13 March 1928 – 30 August 2004) [2] was an Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1950s. His last game for Footscray was in their victorious 1954 Grand Final. He then went to Golden Square, as coach. [3]
