Daniel "Dan" Conner is a fictional character in the television series Roseanne created by comedian and namesake Roseanne Barr and portrayed by actor John Goodman. He is the husband to Roseanne Conner , and father to two daughters, Darlene and Becky, and two sons, D.J. and Jerry Garcia.
Dan is Roseanne's husband and father of Becky, Darlene, D.J., and Jerry. Dan is a lovable, good-natured, blue-collar family man who works as a drywall contractor. Like Roseanne, he is overweight and leads a mostly sedentary life when not working.
Dan has a strained relationship with his divorced father, Ed , a traveling salesman who was often absent during Dan's childhood. Roseanne and Jackie's meddlesome parents Beverly ( Estelle Parsons ) and Al ( John Randolph ), consider moving to Lanford, panicking both sisters, although this is quickly dismissed as just an "idea".
Roseanne and Dan ponder opening a motorcycle shop with their friend Ziggy, who has returned to Lanford. Dan and Roseanne agree to take out a second mortgage on the house. Ziggy gets cold feet at the last minute and leaves town, but not without leaving his stake in the business: $20,000. Brad Garrett appears in this episode.
After canceling the show, ABC has decided to un-cancel "Roseanne" — and also rename it "The Conners." Without Roseanne, that leaves everything open for Dan and Jackie to take center stage.
