Hidamari Sketch (Japanese: ひだまりスケッチ, Hepburn: Hidamari Suketchi, lit. "Sunny Sketch") is a Japanese yonkoma manga series written and illustrated by Ume Aoki . It follows a group of young female art students, and following their daily lives as close friends and neighbors at the nearby Hidamari Apartments.
The first season of Hidamari Sketch was produced by Shaft and directed by Akiyuki Shinbo and Ryōki Kamitsubo. Yoshiaki Itou was the character designer, who based the designs on Aoki's original concept, and the screenplay was written by Nahoko Hasegawa.
Until 2013, when the anime series ended, Itou continued to design the characters for and act as chief animation director for Hidamari Sketch (and even storyboarded an episode), occasionally helping out as a chief animation director on other series like Natsu no Arashi (2009).
