The Sechura Desert is a coastal desert located south of the Piura Region of Peru along the Pacific coast and inland to the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Its extreme aridity is caused by the upwelling of cold coastal waters and subtropical atmospheric subsidence, but it is also subject to occasional flooding during El Niño years.
Sechura has a hot desert climate (Köppen: BWh) [2] characterized by high temperatures throughout the year and extremely low precipitation. December through May marks the hotter part of the year. February, the hottest month, averages daily highs of 33 °C (91 °F) and daily lows of 23 °C (73 °F).
This small mangrove site is at the northern tip of the Sechura Desert. The climate is normally semi-arid (under 100 mm/year of precipitation), but cn be much wetter in El Nino years. The area is a RAMSAR wetland of international importance "Manglares de San Pedro de Vice", and is an important stopover for migratory birds. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Right between the 3-hour drive on the Sechura Desert, which is located north of the Lambayeque Region and south of the Piura Region, is the evidence of climate change from the common subtropical desert found on the south to visible tropicalization effects of the tropical dry climate or tropical savanna. Examples of this are the tropical dry ...

Piura Department has a desert and semi-desert climate on the coast and the western slopes of the Andes, whereas on the eastern slopes the climate is subtropical. Precipitation is sparse except during El Niño events, when rainfall is abundant and water flows through normally dry watercourses, causing flooding and large-scale land movements.
