Nia Keturah Calhoun is a DC-based multidisciplinary artist who is best known for her mural on 14th Street of Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. [1] [2] Her work was exhibited by Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, 2017 Women's March, and the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
The mural was funded by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, Mama Ayesha's Restaurant, and private donors. Karlisima started the mural in 2007 and completed it in 2009. [3] The mural's concept was planned by Mama Ayesha's family members, who have run the restaurant since its opening in 1960.
