The Fostoria Shade and Lamp Company was the largest manufacturer of glass lamps in the United States during the early 1890s. It began operations in Fostoria, Ohio , on May 17, 1890. The plant was run by Nicholas Kopp Jr., a former chemist at Hobbs, Brockunier and Company in West Virginia .
Elmore Helf died on September 16, 1968, in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of 76. According to an obituary published in ‘Stained Glass Quarterly’ he was remembered as “one of the oldest active members of the Stained Glass Association of America, his firm the Franklin Art Glass Studios having been members for over forty years.” [7]
Fenton had a long history of decorating glass that goes back to its beginnings in 1905. [1] The Fenton Art Glass company started out as a decorating company that purchased blanks from glass manufacturers and placed their own decorations on them. [2] Fenton did not manufacturer glass until 1907 a year after the Williamstown, WV plant was built. [2]
