The city is in the midst of a massive construction boom which continues to drastically alter the city's skyline. As of 2020, Burnaby has 6 skyscrapers (over 150 metres), more than any other city within British Columbia. Having developed as a suburb of Vancouver, Burnaby's growth is attributed to its proximity to that city. [3]
With a population of 568,322 (2021), Surrey is the second-most populated city in Metro Vancouver. Burnaby is the third-most populated city in Metro Vancouver with a population of 249,125 (2021). This regional district comprises 23 local authorities as members: 21 municipalities, one electoral area and one treaty First Nation.
The coat of arms of Burnaby was granted originally to the Corporation of the District of Burnaby by the Canadian Heraldic Authority in 1991, and then reconfirmed for the city of Burnaby in 2005 as the corporation's successor. [1] The grant included the full coat of arms as well as a flag and a badge, both derived from the arms.
Arora previously ran unsuccessfully for a seat on Burnaby's city council in the 2022 municipal election as a member of the Burnaby Citizens Association. [7] She was just short of being elected: she came in 9th place, receiving 10,513 votes or 4.9 per cent of the popular vote, while the top 8 candidates were elected [8]
