The Houston City Championships was a men's and women's tennis tournament was founded in 1924. [1] The tournament was first played at the Houston Municipal Tennis Courts in Memorial Park, Houston, Texas, United States. It ran annually until 1970. [1]
The 2024 U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships (also known as the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships for sponsorship purposes) was a tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was the 54th edition of the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships, and an ATP Tour 250 event on the 2024 ATP Tour.
Between 1970 and 1989 it was part of the Grand Prix Tennis Tour as part of the Grand Prix Super Series of events (1974–1977). During the stint in Indianapolis, from 1969 through 1986, the tournament was a combined men's and women's event. From 2001 to 2007, the event was held at the Houston Westside Tennis Club.
As a part of a restructuring of the schedule, the event moved to the fall in 2019. Because the tour year starts the previous fall, the event was not a part of the 2019 PGA Tour, but was one of the first events of the 2020 PGA Tour. [2] It is held at the Memorial Park Municipal Golf Course in Harris County near downtown Houston and the Galleria.

As of 2012, the Memorial tennis team had a district record of 73-0 and has finished in the state finals for 2010, 2011, and 2012. [citation needed] As of 2019 for Memorial has participated in 11 back to back trips to the UIL Team Tennis State Tournament.
