Lemhi County is a county located in the U.S. state of Idaho.As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,974. [1] The largest city and county seat is Salmon. [2] The county was established in 1869 and named after Fort Lemhi (or Limhi), a remote Mormon missionary settlement from 1855 to 1858 in Bannock and Shoshone territory.
Idaho's present-day boundaries were established in 1868, and Lemhi County was created the following year. By the time Idaho was admitted to the Union as the 43rd state in 1890, a further eight counties had been created, bringing the total to 18.
Lemhi is located along Idaho State Highway 28 and the Lemhi River, 8 miles (13 km) south of Tendoy and 18 miles (29 km) northwest of Leadore.
