The 200-acre (0.81 km 2) campus at Beechwood, just off the A9 south of Inverness, is considered to be one of the most important developments for the region over the next 20 years. In August 2015, UHI Inverness, one of the main collaborators at UHI, opened at the Inverness Campus. The £50m 18,500 sqm facility offers further and higher education courses including Life Sciences education and research.
The Inverness Campus is an area in Inverness, Scotland. 5.5 hectares of the site have been designated as an enterprise area for life sciences by the Scottish Government. This designation is intended to encourage research and development in the field of life sciences , by providing incentives to locate at the site.
The college opened in 1959 and became an independent entity in 1993. In July 2014, the college had 8,000 students enrolled in full-time and part-time courses, [1] including more than 750 studying for university degrees.

In early 2021, the boards of management at North Highland College (UHI North Highland), West Highland College (UHI West Highland) and Lews Castle College (UHI Outer Hebrides) commissioned a review into their long-term strategic future.
