In the beginning, Seogwipo was a part of Tamna, an ancient kingdom of Jeju. The kingdom traded with other nations across the Korean peninsula and China during the period of the Three Kingdoms (1st century BCE to 7th century CE). The small port of Seogwipo was used to send tributes to Yuan, an ancient kingdom in China.
In 1971 it was designated a type 1 fishing port, and is now a national fishing port. [1] It now maintains routes to Gapado, an island south of Jeju. [1] [5] Nearby is Hamo Beach (하모해변), which is sometimes referred to as Moseulpo Beach. [6] Also nearby is the Moseulpo Jungang Market (모슬포중앙시장). [7]
Saeseom (Korean: 새섬) is an island in Seogwipo Port in Seogwipo-dong , Seogwipo, Jeju Province, South Korea. It has an area of 104,137 m 2 (1,120,920 sq ft) and is relatively short, with its highest point at 19 m (62 ft) above sea level. [1] [2] It is connected to the mainland via Saeyeon Bridge .
