Mabel Mary Spanton was born in Hanley, Staffordshire on 1 December 1874, the daughter of Dr. William Dunnet Spanton, F.R.C.S. [1] She studied art at Hanley School of Art under J. S. Cartlidge, and also in Newlyn, Cornwall under Stanhope Forbes, R.A. [1]
The Bexhill Corporation owned the building and leased it to the museum as well as proving a small grant. [1] Henry Sargent started work at Bexhill Museum in 1920 and remained in post until his death in 1983. The museum's governing body, the Bexhill Museum Association, was founded in 1923.
Around 5,000 of his discoveries have already been donated to Bexhill Museum. Theropods are exceptionally rare at the site, and Mr Brockhurst has found 10 or so specimens there so far.
