Years after the tritium lamps died, I replaced them with Wilson Combat Vickers Elite fiber optic Battle Sights, which I also shot very well with. That G19 is now fitted with Trijicon HD XR tritium iron sights. I still like the XS Big Dot pistol sight.
I had XS Big Dot sights installed as well. The grouping is OK, but it seems like I'm shooting a little low and to the right, consistently. The rear sight can be adjusted with a tiny hex wrench, but I looked at the manual for the sights and cannot make head or tail of it. It basically talks about every XS sight system BUT the Big Dots.
The XS front sight on the 640-1 is quick to acquire and I'd recommend it even if you don't want it for the night sight. It's perfect during the day and I believe the Big Dot size would be too big. It looks good, sights good and I just plain love it. Best possible upgrade to these two guns that I can think of!!

Welcome to the Forum! Only XS Big Dot I've got is on my 870 front bead. It's great. My PM9 wears the stock Meprolight night sights installed by Kahr. Could you elaborate a bit on the process of removing and installing the sights? A thread here recently talked about them being difficult to do (was a second hand story though).
It would be a big waste of effort and funds to try to install new sight on a J frame IMO. Its a close quarters point and shoot weapon. Thats how you should practice with this type of gun. In a SHTF situation at less than 10' pull the gun, point it and shoot, no need for better sights.
XS Big Dot NS.....eye picks it up quick and will work great in low/no light situations. Fiber optic front sights are great with a light source but of not much use in low light and they are more fragile. May not hold up well on a carry piece especially if carried in a pocket or ankle holster.
From the OP, I have decided buy the XS Big Dot Shotgun Bead plain barrel front sight, for my Mossberg 590. I am trying to decide if I need Tritium or plain then I need to decide on the color, orange, yellow or white. I have a Streamlight TL-Racker light on the forend so I don't know if I really need the Tritium as the Tritium is $39 more.
Either one is a good set of sights. The XS sights certainly have their place. If I didn't all ready have the Heinie sights on each gun, I'd probably go with the Big Dots on any other gun. I just picked up a Smith 360 PD with the XS Big Dot front, and for that application (front sight only), IMHO it's the perfect sight.
