At this time, Kyneton was a growing rural centre, and served as a major stop for those heading to the gold rushes at Mount Alexander and Bendigo. The post office opened on 1 July 1843 as Mount Macedon and was renamed Kyneton on 1 January 1854. [8] Local government came to Kyneton with the proclamation of the Kyneton Municipal District in 1857.

The Kyneton Guardian was a newspaper based in Kyneton, Victoria, Australia. Founded in September 1856 by Mitchell King Armstrong on High Street in Kyneton, it later absorbed the Kyneton Observer. [1] In 1979, the paper was relaunched as the Guardian Express, this later became the Midland Express which is still based in Kyneton today. [2]
