The West Michigan Railroad (reporting mark WMI) is a shortline railroad in southwest Michigan. It began operations in 1995, replacing the bankrupt Kalamazoo, Lake Shore and Chicago Railroad ( reporting mark KLSC ) on an ex- Pere Marquette Railway line between Hartford and Paw Paw, Michigan .
The Grand Elk Railroad (reporting mark GDLK) is a Class III railroad which operates in the states of Indiana and Michigan. It is one of 40+ short-line railroads owned by Watco. The company leases a 123 miles (198 km) line from the Norfolk Southern running south from Grand Rapids, Michigan, through Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Elkhart, Indiana.

The Grand Trunk Railway of Michigan and Grand Trunk Railway of Northern Indiana were chartered in their respective states in 1867 and 1868, as part of a scheme to build a new railway line between Richmond, Michigan, and Chicago. The Hamilton Northwestern Railroad (reporting mark HNW) is a shortline railroad in West Michigan. It began operations in 2022 after purchasing the railroad from Endeavour Ag and Energy. That company's predecessor had purchased the recently abandoned railroad from CSX Transportation in 2003 to preserve rail service at their Hamilton location.
The White River Railroad was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chicago and West Michigan Railroad incorporated on November 13, 1879, for the purpose of constructing a rail link north from the C&WM's line at White Cloud to the Flint and Pere Marquette Railroad's main line (Ludington–Monroe) at Baldwin, and to exploit the ample timber resources of the White River area.
