Christopher Vere Awdry (born 2 July 1940) [1] is an English author. He is best known for his contributions to The Railway Series of books featuring Thomas the Tank Engine , which was started by his late father, Wilbert Awdry (1911–1997).
The Railway Series is a series of British books about a railway known as the North Western Railway, located on the fictional Island of Sodor. There are 42 books in the series, the first published in May 1945 by the Rev. Wilbert Awdry. Awdry wrote 26 books; the final one being written in October 1972.
The publishers were eager for new books, as the television adaptation was in production at the time, and Christopher Awdry became the new Railway Series author. All of his books were illustrated by Clive Spong , an illustrator who, it was felt, could combine technical accuracy with the appealing, colourful style exemplified by C. Reginald Dalby .
The episodes "Thomas and the Missing Christmas Tree" and "Thomas and Trevor" were both one-off stories written by Christopher. The following series would begin to use original stories by the production staff, with some of the remaining Railway Series stories deemed "repetitive and too 'storybook' orientated". [2]

It is based on The Railway Series of books by the Reverend Wilbert Awdry and his son, Christopher Awdry. Until 2008, all characters were voiced by the narrator. Individual voices were given to the characters following the switch to full CGI animation in 2009 until the series ended in 2021.
The Fat Controller is a fictional character in The Railway Series books written by Reverend W. Awdry and his son, Christopher Awdry.In the first two books in the series (The Three Railway Engines and Thomas the Tank Engine) he is known as The Fat Director, and as of the third book (James the Red Engine) he becomes The Fat Controller, as the railway has been nationalised.
