November 23, 2021 – The Department of Consumer Protection’s (DCP) Liquor Control Division is reminding Connecticut residents that hours for some liquor permittees change on holidays: Off-premise consumption: Package stores must remain closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
Connecticut state law does not regulate alcohol sales at package and grocery stores on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31. Therefore, those establishments can sell alcoholic beverages on those days.

In Connecticut, beer can be sold at liquor stores Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Bars can be open from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, and 10:00 a.m. till 2:00 a.m. on Sunday.
“State liquor stores are open from 11 a.m. until either 7 p.m. or 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday,” Schmitt said. “The stores are closed on Sundays and on state and national holidays.”
Manufacturer permits cannot sell alcoholic liquor to go on Christmas Day, or New Year’s Day. On-premise consumption: Normal hours remain the same, except premises may stay open an extra hour New Years Eve evening until 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day morning.
