LeMond Racing Cycles is a bicycle company founded by Greg LeMond, the only American winner of the Tour de France.. LeMond initially offered bicycle frames with a geometry based on the racing bikes he used in competition, with a longer top tube and wheelbase in an otherwise traditional lightweight steel frame.
The new line began with a series of commemorative designed bicycles, to be followed with road, cyclocross, and gravel-road models. LeMond purchased Time Sport USA, the US distributor for the company. He stated, "I'm really excited to be back in the bike industry." [153]
The frame was first tested in competition at the 1986 Tour de France by Greg LeMond and Bernard Hinault. With this innovation, LeMond won his first Tour, using both the KG96 frame and PP65 pedals In 1987, LOOK partnered with the FFC to develop high-performance winning track bikes, a collaboration that continues today.
The relationship between Trek and Tour-de-France winner Greg LeMond went back to at least 1995 when LeMond licensed Trek to produce LeMond branded bicycles. According to Trek, "In 1999, the LeMond line was one of the fastest growing road bike brands and one of the top five largest road bike brands in the United States". [16]
Clark-Kent started building bicycle frames in 1989. The company built both road and mountain bike frames in steel and titanium and were the early builders of Greg LeMond road and mountain titanium frames, before LeMond production went to Litespeed and later Trek Bicycle Corporation.
