Hogenakkal Falls is a waterfall in South India on the Kaveri river on the border between Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu and Chamrajnagar district of Karnataka. [1] It is located 46 km (29 mi) from Dharmapuri and 199 km (124 mi) from Chamrajnagar .
Hogenakkal main falls have an elevation of about 66 ft. River Kaveri is the main source of this falls. As the Kaveri flows through the dense medicinal forest of Western Ghats, the water from this fall has many medicinal properties. The carbonate rocks found near this falls are considered as the oldest one in the world.
The hamlet of Hogenakkal shares its etymology with the nearby falls, deriving from the Kannada words 'hoge' and 'kall', meaning smoke and rock respectively. Hogenakkal basically means smoke over the rocks, referencing the appearance of the mist of the waterfalls.
