"Wish You Were Here" is a song by English rock band Pink Floyd, released as the title track of their 1975 album of the same name. [2] [3] Guitarist/vocalist David Gilmour and bassist/vocalist Roger Waters collaborated in writing the music, with Gilmour singing lead vocals.
The tracks on the Wish You Were Here Immersion box set were recorded on 15 November 1974. The tracks from "Speak To Me" to "The Great Gig in the Sky" were recorded on 16 November 1974, while the tracks from "Money" to "Eclipse" were recorded on 15 November 1974, with patches from the 16th. The Wish You Were Here Tour, also referred to as the North American Tour, was a concert tour by the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd in 1975 in support of their then-forthcoming album Wish You Were Here. The tour was divided in two legs in the United States, West Coast and East Coast, and a gig in the UK at the Knebworth Festival.
Wish You Were Here was sold in one of the more elaborate packages to accompany a Pink Floyd album. Storm Thorgerson had accompanied the band on their 1974 tour and had given serious thought to the meaning of the lyrics, eventually deciding that the songs were, in general, concerned with "unfulfilled presence", rather than Barrett's illness. The album includes many works from A Momentary Lapse of Reason as well as tracks from older Pink Floyd albums. [7] The double LP release did not have "Us and Them" on the track listing. Both the double LP and the double cassette had "Wish You Were Here" between "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" and "Comfortably Numb". [7]
The show featured the song "A Great Day for Freedom", from the Pink Floyd album The Division Bell (1994) and was the only show of the tour to feature it. It was last performed by Gilmour during his semi-acoustic shows in 2002 .
