Founded in 1974, the school was named for lawyer, banker, and philanthropist Shepard Broad who was a member of the school's Board of Governors and who provided financial support. The law building's name recognizes Leo Goodwin Sr.'s large donations. The school received approval by the American Bar Association in 1975. [5]
Shepard Broad received his law degree from New York Law School in 1927, and he was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1928. From 1928 through 1940, Mr. Broad practiced law in New York City. In August 1940, Mr. Broad was admitted to The Florida Bar and opened a law office in Miami Beach, Florida, the next year.
The law school was named after one of the university's founders, Shepard Broad. The same year, the university began offering evening courses on campus for undergraduates, and changed its name to Nova University. The following year, in 1975, the law school received approval from the American Bar Association. [36]
