The two story wood-frame house was built c. 1860 by Josiah Whitman. It is a well-preserved local example of vernacular Second Empire styling. It has the characteristic mansard roof, with eaves decorated by heavy brackets. The entry is offset to the left side, with a portico that is also heavily bracketed.
The building is typical of traditional colonial era Cape Cod Houses in that it is one and a half stories tall, features a steeped roof with side gables, a large central chimney, and a symmetrical facade with a door in the center. The house's 1815 addition reflects the Georgian Colonial architectural style.
