The International Sailing Schools Association also known as ISSA is an international organization associating 3,500 sailing schools from all over the world. [2] ISSA was founded in London and Paris in 1969 as a result of a joint initiative of the sailing communities of France, Poland, Italy, Switzerland and Great Britain.
Recognized as a Top 50 Catholic High School in the U.S. and the only Louisiana school to receive the honor in 2005, 2006, 2010, 2011; Mount Carmel Academy has twice been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education's Exemplary School Program as a Blue Ribbon School. It is the only school in Louisiana to be recognized twice with this honor.
Sailing School Vessel (SSV): Inspected under Title 46, Subchapter R of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). An SSV is a vessel of less than 500 gross tons carrying six or more sailing school students or instructors, primarily propelled by sail, and operated by a nonprofit educational organization exclusively for the purpose of sailing education.

Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies was established in 1909 by the Jefferson Parish School Board and named Metairie Ridge School. By 1912, the wood-framed, one-room schoolhouse had grown to an enrollment of 54. By 1929, grades 1 through 12 had been established and the school was renamed Metairie High School.
