Ring Ring is the debut studio album by the Swedish group ABBA, initially credited as Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Frida.It was released in Scandinavia on 26 March 1973, and later in a limited number of other territories, including West Germany, Australia, South Africa and Mexico, through Polar Music. When ABBA performed "Ring Ring" in the Swedish Eurovision selection competition on 10 February 1973, [5] it was a simpler version arranged by Lars Samuelson and backed by his orchestra, losing the "wall of sound" production sound. The song finished third.
This track was in fact a series of snippets of then well-known ABBA-songs and solo-songs with a spoken overdub featuring all of the ABBA-members. It was officially released as part of the Deluxe Edition of the album "Ring Ring" released in 2013.
Bright Lights Dark Shadows: The Real Story of Abba describes it as "dirge-like", and says it "holds the dubious distinction of being the least-liked Abba track ever among the group's hardcore fans", adding that it is a leftover from an earlier project. [6]
In the UK, ABBA's British record label, Epic, decided to re-release a remixed version of "Ring Ring" instead of "Honey, Honey". A cover version of "Honey, Honey" by Sweet Dreams peaked at number 10, and both records debuted on the UK chart within a week of each other.
