The Greenwich Episcopal society was organized in 1805, and its first church was built on this property in 1844, on the location now occupied by the parsonage. The present church was built in 1868-69, and the original church was replaced by the parsonage in 1872. The property originally included a row of horse sheds; these were demolished in 1923.
In the United States, numerous Methodist churches are listed on the National Register of Historic Places [1] and on state and local historic registers, many reflecting the values of plainness, of Gothic architecture, of simple adornment. The Greek Revival style is also simple and came to be adopted for numerous American Methodist churches.

The Bethel AME Church is located north of downtown Greenwich, on the south side of Lake Street opposite the Greenwich Hospital campus. It is a single-story structure, with a gabled roof and stucco exterior. A square tower projects from the front left corner, capped by a pyramidal roof with flared eaves.

Greenwich's Putnam Hill area became a secondary center to the town (after Old Greenwich) at least as early as 1702, when the Second Congregational Church was located there. It was also home to Greenwich's town hall between 1825 and 1874, which was located where the town's Civil War memorial now stands.
