The Tenor horn (British English; Alto horn in American English, Althorn in Germany; occasionally referred to as E ♭ horn) is a brass instrument in the saxhorn family and is usually pitched in E ♭. It has a bore that is mostly conical, like the flugelhorn and euphonium, [2] and normally uses a deep, cornet-like mouthpiece.
Horn was born in Los Angeles, and after replacing saxophonist Steve Douglas in 1959, he toured with member Duane Eddy for five years, playing sax and flute on the road, and in the recording studio. [2] Along with Bobby Keys and Jim Price he became one of the most in-demand horn session players of the 1970s and 1980s.
A member of the Phenix Horns, he was best known for his work with Earth, Wind & Fire and Phil Collins. [3] He played alto, tenor, and soprano sax as a member of Earth, Wind & Fire's original horn section, the Phenix Horns, from 1975 through 1982.
