The common iliac artery is a large artery of the abdomen paired on each side. It originates from the aortic bifurcation at the level of the 4th lumbar vertebra.It ends in front of the sacroiliac joint, one on either side, and each bifurcates into the external and internal iliac arteries.
The renal arteries normally arise at a 90° angle off of the left interior side of the abdominal aorta, immediately below the superior mesenteric artery. [1] They have a radius of approximately 0.25 cm, [2] 0.26 cm at the root. [3] The measured mean diameter can differ depending on the imaging method used.
