The Standard Template Library (STL) is a software library originally designed by Alexander Stepanov for the C++ programming language that influenced many parts of the C++ Standard Library. It provides four components called algorithms , containers , functions , and iterators .
For class templates, only the member functions that are used will be instantiated. One version of the class or function is compiled, works for all type parameters (via type-erasure). Objects of a class template instantiated with different parameters will have different types at run time (i.e., distinct template instantiations are distinct classes).
Provides the C++ standard string classes and templates. <string_view> Added in C++17. Provides class template std::basic_string_view, an immutable non-owning view to any string. <regex> Added in C++11. Provides utilities for pattern matching strings using regular expressions.
The C++ Standard Library includes the Standard Template Library or STL that provides a framework of templates for common data structures and algorithms. Templates in C++ may also be used for template metaprogramming , which is a way of pre-evaluating some of the code at compile-time rather than run-time .
For example, Java defines a string literal as an instance of the java.lang.String class. Smalltalk defines an anonymous function expression (a "block") as an instance of its library's BlockContext class. Scheme does not specify which portions must be implemented as core language vs. standard library.
Both expressions have the same meaning and behave in exactly the same way. The latter form was introduced to avoid confusion, [3] since a type parameter need not be a class until C++20. (It can be a basic type such as int or double.) For example, the C++ Standard Library contains the function template max(x, y) which returns the larger of x and ...
C#: Since version 8.0, C# has support for default interface methods, [7] which have some properties of traits. [8] C++: Used in Standard Template Library and the C++ standard library to support generic container classes [9] [10] and in the Boost TypeTraits library. [11]
The following list of C++ template libraries details the various libraries of templates available for the C++ programming language.. The choice of a typical library depends on a diverse range of requirements such as: desired features (e.g.: large dimensional linear algebra, parallel computation, partial differential equations), commercial/opensource nature, readability of API, portability or ...
