An idle air control actuator or idle air control valve (IAC actuator/valve) is a device commonly used in fuel-injected vehicles to control the engine's idling rotational speed . [1] In carburetted vehicles a similar device known as an idle speed control actuator is used.
As the RPM of the engine increases, the throttle plate in the carburetor is gradually closed, reducing the amount of fuel and air admitted to the engine, until the engine RPM is stable. If RPM drops below the desired value, the throttle plate will automatically open, admitting more fuel/air mix to the engine.
