The Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary is located along the tidal Patuxent River in southern Maryland, United States. In 1971, the Maryland State Legislature passed the Wildlands Protection Act, which began the program of protecting publicly owned areas. As of December 2018, 38 areas had been designated as Maryland Wildlands. [1] representing 65,956 acres (266.91 km 2) of Maryland Wildlands. [2]
The refuge is located on Maryland's Eastern Shore, just 12 mi (19 km) south of Cambridge, Maryland in Dorchester County, and consists of over 28,000 acres (110 km 2) of freshwater impoundments, brackish tidal wetlands, open fields, and mixed evergreen and deciduous forests.
