In my opinion, a canopy camper on a gladiator is just about the perfect go anywhere vehicle. And you are right, a camper on a gladiator just looks right. there are a lot of nice options out there right now. My personal opinion is that the go fast camper is probably the least desirable of all the campers currently being made.
Expedition Driven Camper. Starting at $8,999 A perfect addition to the Jeep Gladiator. A fully welded steel frame and aluminum composite materials result in an extremely strong, yet lightweight camper (just 300 pounds) that sets up and tears down in under a minute! Optional equipment includes...
The fiberglass tops have a better flow with body lines, but what really flows on Gladiator bodies so personal choice. The fiberglass ones have less weight capacity but can get HD versions, and the fiberglass are the lowest price, although I think they all fall between $3000 to $3900.
I even visited a couple showrooms to look at a few of the options in person (Alu-Cab Contour Canopy and Alu-Cab Camper- though I wasn't in the market for a full camper). And every time I saw a truck cap equipped Gladiator parked in a lot somewhere I'd always stop to take a closer look (ARE, Leer, Softopper and Bestop mostly).
Seems there are two big players for the Gladiator cap: ARE and RDI. Any particular reason you guys went with ARE? Some things I like about the ARE over the RDI: 1. Can get carpet interior of the shell for better insulation. 2. Fiberglass transfers heat less than aluminum. 3. Can get painted color-matched shell.
Just for clarity...you are actually looking for a canopy, cap, topper but not a camper. Alu-Cab also makes two for the Gladiator. I'm very happy with mine, One thing I really like about it is that it is covered with T-slot rails so you can add awnings, tents, lights, as you decide you want them.
When I had my canopy camper, I bought the trailer plug extender and wired extra lights to the camper. They were very visible. Now that I have a contour canopy, I am looking for a smaller version light so I can do the same. For now, I run a 1Up USA rack and they offer a light that attaches to the rack. Running light, turn signals, and brakes.
Went and picked this up today. In GREAT shape…just the WRONG color…. Did a 10 hour round non-stop trip. Got it for $2k. Got home and immediately started prepping it for RAPTOR lining in black to match the hard top. Will post more pics tomorrow of the sanding and prepping as well as...
