Hemet is a city in the San Jacinto Valley in Riverside County, California. It covers a total area of 29.3 square miles (76 km 2 ), about half of the valley, which it shares with the neighboring city of San Jacinto .
Hemet was founded in 1887 and was incorporated on January 20, 1910. The city is home to the Ramona Bowl which is where "Ramona", the official outdoor play of California, is performed. Hemet is located at the southern end of the valley. The city is home to the Western Science Center, and Diamond Valley Lake.

Named after Clarence B. Covell, a Library Board member from 1910 to 1920, the Covell Memorial Library Building was designed by Hemet architect James Calkins. The Covell Library was 11,400 square feet (1,060 m 2 ) and contained approximately 60,000 items.
