According to one of the users based on this thread below, a secure mail key is needed. He generated a Yahoo app password and entered it as his password when setting up the yahoo account in Outlook.
Mail App does not sync with my Yahoo email when it is not opening, I don't have the emails received in the box while it is closed. For example, if I open the Mail App at 5pm today, the emails received before 5pm are not shown in the inbox. It would only sync after 5pm.

Today I deleted the account, and re-added it as a IMAP account rather than the pre-set Yahoo option. I also used aYahoo Mail generated 'one off' password instead of my actual Yahoo password. The problem is with Yahoo! or the Mail app. Lots of people are experiencing it, and lots have sent feedback, including myself. Things that do not resolve the issue (tried by many): Reset Mail app. Repair Mail app. Remove / re-install Mail app. Remove / re-install Yahoo! email account. Re-install Windows OS
