Because of the complex makeup and camera angles, this was one of the most difficult episodes of The Twilight Zone to film. [1] The director, Douglas Heyes, wanted the show to feature actors with sympathetic voices. To achieve this, he cast the episode with his back to the performers. [2]
In a 1974 interview with Marvel Comics, Rod Serling said "I'm on my third draft of a feature film based on Jerome Bixby's short story, 'It's a Good Life'. We did it originally on Twilight Zone, but now we're doing a full-length version. Alan Landsburg, who produced Chariots of the Gods, is producing it. It's in the fantasy-horror genre."
The episode was adapted from a short story by Lynn Venable, [2] which appeared in the January 1953 edition of If: Worlds of Science Fiction. [3] [4] "Time Enough at Last" became one of the most famous episodes of the original Twilight Zone. It is "the story of a man who seeks salvation in the rubble of a ruined world."
