What is Megan's Law? A: Megan's Law exists solely for the purpose of providing a means of protecting the public, especially our children, from victimization by sexual offenders.
Pennsylvania State Police Megan's Law Section 42 Pa. C.S. § 9799.32(1) and § 9799.67 (1) authorizes the Pennsylvania State Police to create and maintain a state registry of sexual offenders, Sexually Violent Deviate Children, and Sexually Violent Predators.
On October 21, 1995, Governor Ridge signed into law Act 24 of 1995, commonly referred to as "Megan's Law," which became effective on April 21, 1996. There were several amendments to Megan's Law as a result of court decisions.
