You don't need a date range for a transaction ID search because there is only one transaction that would possibly come up from it. If you switch the search criteria to transaction ID the date range should actually go away, and all you would do is enter the transaction ID. It still may not go back that far, but you need to try that specifically.

Yes to all your questions. I received the transaction ID at my correct email address. Another PayPal payment today from the same sender, using a different sender's email address, and that one went through fine so I got my payment OK. It's possible that the sender cancelled the first payment after the PayPal information was sent to me.
In the PayPal link below, there will be a link at the top of the page that says "Find a transaction", select it. On the next page you'll see a drop down box, select "Transaction ID" and enter the Transaction ID in the box next to it.

At the moment we don't really return the transaction ID sent to the buyer to the merchant. At the moment your best bet and what I see a lot of our merchants do is to generate their own invoice_id which also shows up in the receipt sent by PayPal and it's a common link between your transaction and the buyers transaction.
