Griffiss Air Force Base is a former United States Air Force installation in the northeastern United States, located in Central New York state at Rome, about fifteen miles (25 km) northwest of Utica. Missions included fighter interceptors , electronic research, installation, and support activities, aerial refueling , and bombers .
New York State Route 825 (NY 825) is a state highway in Oneida County, New York, in the United States. It extends for 2.59 miles (4.17 km) in a generally northwest–southeast direction, connecting the former Griffiss Air Force Base to the Utica–Rome Expressway ( NY 49 ) and downtown Rome .
Oneida County closed the airport in January 2007 and transferred operations to Griffiss International Airport, (formerly Griffiss Air Force Base) about five miles (8.0 km) to the north in Rome, New York. Federal Aviation Administration records say the airport boarded 2,122 passengers in calendar year 2004 and 1,951 in 2005. [2]
