Ravenswood "Old Town" Historic District is a national historic district located at Ravenswood, Jackson County, West Virginia.It encompasses 313 contributing buildings and two contributing structures, the Ohio River Rail Road Steel Pratt-through truss Bridge and Concrete bridge on State Route 68 over Sandy Creek.
Ravenswood is located at (38.952922, -81.761357), [15] along the Ohio River at the mouth of Sandy [ 16 ] According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 1.90 square miles (4.92 km 2 ), of which 1.83 square miles (4.74 km 2 ) is land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 km 2 ) is water.
Bartholomew Fleming began operating a ferry at Ravenswood in 1840, and a wagon road between Ravenswood and Spencer (which later became Roane County's seat) was completed in the early 1840s. However, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad would not reach Ravenswood and Spencer (on the Wheeling to Huntington line) until 1886. [ 10 ]
