Tom Carvel (born Athanasios Karvelas (Greek: Ἀθανάσιος Καρβέλας; July 14, 1906 – October 21, 1990) was a Greek-born American businessman and entrepreneur known for the invention and promotion of soft-serve ice cream in the northeastern United States.
Carvel is best known for its soft-serve ice cream and ice cream cakes, which feature a layer of distinctive "crunchies". It also sells a variety of novelty ice cream bars and ice cream sandwiches. Its slogan is "America's Freshest Ice Cream". Carvel operates a chain of 320 ice cream outlets spread across 19 states and Puerto Rico.
