In February 1945, its 11th Armored Regiment was transferred to the control of the Japanese Fifth Area Army and attached to the 91st Infantry Division. It was stationed in the northern Kuril Islands , where it was in combat against the Soviet Red Army at Paramushir during Invasion of the Kuril Islands at the end of World War II.
