Quảng Nam (Vietnamese: [kwaːŋ˧˩ naːm˧˧] ⓘ) is a coastal province near northernmost part of the South Central Coast region, the Central of Vietnam.It borders Thừa Thiên Huế to the north, Đà Nẵng to the northeast, Kon Tum to the southwest, Quảng Ngãi to the southeast, Sekong of Laos to the west and the South China Sea to the east.
The Tày people, also known as the Thổ, T'o, Tai Tho, Ngan, Phen, Thu Lao, or Pa Di, is a Central Tai-speaking ethnic group who live in northern Vietnam. According to a 2019 census, there are 1.8 million Tày people living in Vietnam. [6] This makes them the second largest ethnic group in Vietnam after the majority Kinh (Vietnamese) ethnic group.
During the Republic of Vietnam, the city was the main base of the US military in Quảng Nam Province (what was then Quảng Tín Province) for the war in Vietnam. The North Vietnamese captured the city on March 24, 1975. In 1997, the local government under the Socialist Republic of Vietnam made it the capital of Quảng Nam province. [3]

The Mekong Delta region (the location of the Six Provinces) was gradually annexed by Vietnam from the Khmer Empire starting in the mid 17th century to the early 19th century, through their Nam tiến territorial expansion campaign. [citation needed] In 1832, Emperor Minh Mạng divided Southern Vietnam into the six provinces Nam Kỳ Lục tỉnh.

'Southern Yue', Vietnamese: Nam Việt, Zhuang: Namz Yied), [3] was an ancient kingdom founded in 204 BC by the Chinese general Zhao Tuo, whose family (known in Vietnamese as the Triệu dynasty) continued to rule until 111 BC.
