Kids Creek is a stream in Grand Traverse County, Michigan in the United States. The stream is a tributary of the Boardman River, which itself flows into Grand Traverse Bay, a bay of Lake Michigan. The bay is some 32 miles (51 km) long, ranges from 7 to 10 miles (11 to 16 km) wide, and up to 620 feet (190 m) deep in spots. It is the second-largest bay of Lake Michigan, behind Green Bay. Grand Traverse Bay is further divided into an East Arm and West Arm by the 18-mile-long (29 km) Old Mission Peninsula. [2]
Wrecks located in the Grand Traverse Preserve include the schooner Metropolis, which sank off Old Mission Peninsula while carrying a cargo of lumber to Chicago in November 1886. Remains of the wreck were surveyed in 2009. [2] In June 2008, the Grand Traverse Bay Underwater Preserve was listed as Michigan's 12th underwater preserve.
Silver Lake is a lake in Grand Traverse County, Michigan. It is roughly 3.5 miles (5.6 km) from the northern to southern ends. The lake is known for its pine coasts, irregular shoreline, and many peninsulas and islands, despite being smaller in size. It has a maximum depth of 310 feet (94 m) and an average depth of 111 feet (34 m), making it Michigan's deepest inland lake, as well as the state's largest by volume. [3] Surrounding it are several townships including Torch Lake, Central Lake, Forest Home, Helena, and Milton in Antrim County, and Clearwater Township of neighboring Kalkaska County.
Boardman Lake is a natural body of water, which would exist even without impoundment by the Union Street Dam, [16] along the course of the river, about a mile upstream from the river's mouth at Grand Traverse Bay.
