Duwamish Head (Lushootseed: sqʷədqs) [2] [a] is the northernmost point in West Seattle, Washington, jutting into Elliott Bay. A large boulder covered with petroglyphs once lay on the beach. [ 3 ] The Duwamish tribe was relocated to a reservation here in 1856, which at the time was referred to as Holderness Point. [ 4 ]
Alki Beach Park is a 135.9-acre (55.0 ha) park located in the West Seattle neighborhood of Seattle, Washington that consists of the Elliott Bay beach between Alki Point and Duwamish Head. [2] It has a 0.5 miles (0.80 km) of beachfront, and was the first public salt-water bathing beach on the west coast of the United States.
The lower portion of the park is divided between wetland marsh and beach (on Puget Sound), and situated north of the Shilshole Bay Marina. It also has dunes and large grassy areas. Golden Gardens has exceptional views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains across the sound. The water is very cold for swimming even in summers.
