The Sipsey Wilderness lies within Bankhead National Forest around the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River in northwestern Alabama, United States.Designated in 1975 and expanded in 1988, 24,922-acre (10,086 ha) Sipsey is the largest and most frequently visited Wilderness area in Alabama and contains dozens of waterfalls.
When the bridge was erected, it took the name of a family named Foreaker, which owned an adjacent farm; the Foreakers sold the property in 1925 to a Mr. Weddle, [2] and the bridge has also sometimes been known as the "Weddle Bridge". [1] The bridge was reinforced in 1938 for automobile traffic and has been well maintained by the county.
