Educated women who held important positions during the British Raj, began to create and wear early Indo western designs. [12] These Indian women began to wear sarees with blouses that had puffy sleeves. These sleeves were much the same as puffy sleeves that were popular in Europe during the Victorian era. [13]
A standard sari is 6.5 metres long and includes the blouse piece. A very ornate sari can take one month to make and is an heirloom piece to be treasured. A genuine Kota Doria sari will contain the GI mark woven in one corner indicating that it has been hand woven using real silver and gold thread.
A sari (sometimes also saree [1] or sadi) [note 1] is a women's garment from the Indian subcontinent. [2] It consists of an un-stitched stretch of woven fabric arranged over the body as a robe, with one end attached to the waist, while the other end rests over one shoulder as a stole, [3] sometimes baring a part of the midriff.

The open lungi is a plain sheet of cotton or silk, whereas the stitched one has both of its open ends stitched together to form a tube-like structure. Though mostly worn by men, elderly women also prefer lungi to other garments owing to its good aeration. [48]

Women dressed in Mundu Raja Ravi Verma. Mundum neriyatum (Malayalam: മുണ്ട് നേരിയത്; settu-mundu or mundu-set) is the traditional clothing of women in Kerala, a state in southwestern India. It is the oldest remnant of the ancient form of the sari which covered only the lower part of the body.
