A university is at the outskirts of Khuzdar, [5] known as the heart of Balochistan. The city of Khuzdar is situated on National Highway linking Pakistan, Iran and Turkey. Kalat District (Brahui and Urdu: قلات) is a district located in Kalat Division of Balochistan, Pakistan.Kalat was made a separate district on February 3, 1954. At that time Khuzdar and Mastung districts were sub-divisions of Kalat (which then also included Kachi, Jhal Magsi and Naseerabad (Dera Murad Jamali); these were separated in 1965 as Kachhi District).

The area became the Kalat Division when the Union was dissolved. The first head of the Union was the Khan of Kalat, Ahmad of Kalat. The main governing body was the Council of Rulers which comprised the Khan-e-Azam Khan of Kalat, the Jam of Lasbela and the Nawabs of Kharan and Makran.
