Ireland is located 4 miles west of downtown Jasper on State Road 56 in the northeast portion of Madison Township. On the western edge of the town lies the Alder Creek, a tributary of the Patoka River. Previously Ireland had its own high school, known as Madison Township High School. The school colors were green and white, and the mascot was the "spuds" (meaning potatoes). [7] A new building was being built circa 1948. [8] In 1970 the school merged into Jasper High School. [7]
