I've been shooting mostly 6fpe to 30 fpe pcp's for 24 years but the last couple years I got into 55-80 fpe rifles which munch air like crazy. It wasn't bad before because fills were $5 and a tank would last for a month or two. Now they only last a week if I'm shooting the more powerful rifles much. Also my 4500 psi tank costs $10 to fill now.
I lack much experience with air rifles I like, but am looking in to an fx panthera compact in .22 myself. Rats and backyard fun/target/plink. .22 is good rat caliber. Going to start with compact and hopefully will get long barrel version in 22 as well if I can develop place to shoot nearby.
If you go with a PCP air rifle - which is probably a good idea since spring air guns easily destroy optics - you'll also need a specialized high-pressure pump, with specialized fittings. An ordinary compressor is nowhere near sufficient (~100 psi vs ~3000 psi for an air gun). Basic high-pressure hand pumps run about $50, powered ones around $500.
My 9 year old son and I are big fans of the latest PCP rifles. Started with Benjamin Marauders and graduated to FX Impact 25 cal and a custom W.A.R Flex 357 cal. Of all our PCP rifles, the FX Impact is the most flexible and our go to rifle most of the time - the power wheel setting allows us to shoot a 34gr pellet at min setting at 620fps to ...
Pcp air rifles will most always outshoot a 22 in this scenario. A pcp where you can tune the gun is almost like hand loading for a 22. The biggest factor in 22 is available ammo and lot to lot or even within the same lot variations With a pcp you can easily change barrels, calibers, pressures etc and tune to specific pellets or slugs.
Hey everyone, My friend and I hunt starlings and I use a non-regulated Barra 1100Z while he uses an Air Ventruri Avenger bullpup and we're having a heck of a time trying to keep our guns zero. We're shooting at 35-40 yards so nothing crazy.. We're always paying attention to wind etc.. Upon...
I'll Start off this new thread with a Photo thread!!. I dove deep into the FX PCP Air Guns in 2022 and have really enjoyed them. Here ar the 3 I currently own. I compete NRL22 & Outlaw matches so far. I have not made it to a PRS RF Match with one yet. I plan to with the Panthera.
Anyone know anything about this topic. I have seen a lot of videos from Matt Dubber on Youtube, and have been trying to learn what I can. I even spoke to Utah Airguns for an hour the other day. Seems like a lot of money for an airgun. But I think I will shoot it daily. Your thoughts?
Most pre charged pneumatic air rifles like around a 200 bar fill. With a 200 bar tank, that means you can only fill the rifle totally full for the initial fill and every fill after that is short filled as the pressure in the tank will decrease every subsequent fill.
99% of PCP air rifles are still built somewhat fragile but I think that will start to change in the next few years. With """pellets""" the best air rifles can exceed 22rf at 10Y, be as accurate as 22rf at 25Y, not quite as well at 50Y, but wind is a becoming a big problem by then. At 100Y PCP's don't stand a chance.
