The Holland Downtown Historic District contains 59 contributing and 24 non-contributing structures. Most of the buildings are two- and three-story commercial structures, built in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and having brick, stone, or terra cotta facades. The buildings stand directly on the line of the sidewalk.
The Holland Historic District is a primarily residential historic district in Holland, Michigan.It includes buildings along 11th, 12th, and 13th Streets from roughly Washington Boulevard on the west to College Avenue on the east, along with buildings on 14th Street from Pine Avenue on the west to just past College Avenue on the east, and buildings on 15th Street from Pine Avenue to River Avenue.
The city's primary shopping district is centered along 8th Street, the city's main street downtown. The 8th Street business district features a thermal snow-melting system which uses cooling water from the local electric plant. In 1988, the city rebuilt the entire street and sidewalk system, installing the thermal pipes underneath.
In 2010, a bank purchased the mall for $7.8 million. [8] In November 2014, a local developer announced plans to begin "de-malling" the complex into an outdoor shopping mall. [9] Work began on "de-malling" in mid-2015. The only stores remaining operational throughout the reconstruction are JCPenney, Younkers, Dunham's Sports, Buckle, and GNC.
